Major League Soccer (MLS) club New York City FC are still without a stadium to call home since their debut. Yankee Stadium, a venue they’ve been utilizing as their home since 2015, has proven to be difficult. The club is forced to play at the MLB’s New York Mets’ Citi Field and at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut due to scheduling conflicts.

The initial agreement was for the team to play at Yankee Stadium for 3 season before moving into their own venue. As reported by the New York Times, there has been discussion of a privately funded 25,000-seat stadium in South Bronx. A deal has not been struck, but the soonest the venue would be available is 2024.
Not only has this caused discontentment amongst the season ticket holders, but this has impacted NYCFC’s status and commercial success in the MLS. More recent expansion teams have their own stadiums such as Orlando City SC, Atlanta United, Minnesota United, and LAFC. There is significant stadium revenue that is being lost without having a home of their own.
To add further to the embarrassment, some matches are having to be played at Red Bull Arena, the home of their bitter cross town rivals.
