Unfortunately, the 2020 Major League Baseball season is currently playing without fans. But baseball fans will not let the coronavirus get in the way of their chance to “root, root, root for the home team.”

Chicago Cubs

Chicago Cubs fans have the unique opportunity to watch games from nearby rooftops that overlook Wrigley Field. These tickets were selling for $300-400 at the end of July, with fans driving over 8 hours to cheer the Cubs on from close by. The Cubs have been taking COVID-19 precautions very seriously, with Bleacher reporting the MLB has reached out to them for advice.

Season Ticket Holders were offered refunds or credits for games earlier in the season, while the team has been preparing for the hopeful scenario fans are allowed back this season.

According to NBC Sports, the Cubs used software to lay out the whole ballpark with space between groups and other social distancing parameters like leaving room around aisles and the field. That layout allowed them about 6,000 to 7,000 fans in the over 40,000-capacity venue.

Until then, Season Ticket Holders can be on the lookout for a foul ball in their mailbox. The Cubs are retrieving balls from the stands and sending them to the Season Ticket Holder closest to its landing spot.

St. Louis Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced a ticket refund policy for July, August and September Games, allowing Season Ticket Holders to receive an account credit to be used on a future game or a refund if desired.  A similar concept to the Wrigley Field rooftops, 100 fans per game are allowed to purchase tickets to watch the Cardinals in-person from the Budweiser Brew House Bud Deck.

Boston Red Sox

The Boston Red Sox have announced all tickets previously purchased for the 2020 season will no longer be valid. Their official website notes: “Season Ticket Holders will have the option of receiving a credit towards 2021 season ticket renewals or additional single game tickets in 2021. Those Season Ticket Holders who choose a credit will receive a 10% bonus credit incremental to the total dollar amount of their season ticket for the 2020 season.”

New York Yankees

As the New York Yankees figure things out, Season Ticket Licensees have been informed of their impacted game policy, in which they automatically receive a Impacted Game Credit. “Season Ticket Licensees will have the option to use the Impacted Game Credit for the purchase and use of: (a) ticket(s) for another regular season game through the end of the 2021 regular season, subject to availability; (b) towards the renewal of their 2021 season ticket plan; and/or (c) tickets in accordance with the Rain Check Policy through the end of the 2021 regular season, subject to availability.”

Philadelphia Phillies

Philadelphia officials announced in July that no fans will be allowed to attend Philadelphia Phillies games in 2020. Well, one fan will be in attendance – The Phillie Phanatic.

Plans to fill the fan void include pre-recorded cheers and cardboard cutouts, now available for $40, with net proceeds benefiting Phillies Charities, Inc.
