Football fans are on the edge of their seats and the season hasn’t even started yet. The NFL Players Association approved a plan to ensure NFL training camps open as scheduled at the end of July. With the players preparing for the season, Season Ticket Holders want to as well. So what does this mean for your favorite team? Here is a look at what NFL teams with the largest fanbases are handling season tickets during the COVID-19 pandemic.

New England Patriots

On July 14th, the New England Patriots announced reduced capacity and preliminary protocols at Gillette Stadium., including “tickets will be arranged in blocks of 10 seats or less, and the first eight rows of stadium seats will not be used.” Furthermore, face coverings will be required.  Parking for 2020 home games will be free of charge in all Gillette Stadium parking lots and all tickets will be mobile. The elimination of parking and box office attendants will help social distancing.

According to NBC Sports, Massachusetts is not allowing fans to attend professional sports games at this time. If state and local governments allow fans to attend, Patriots Putnam Club and Season Ticket Members will have the first opportunity to purchase individual game tickets. After this sale process is complete, any remaining tickets will go on-sale to the general public.

Pittsburgh Steelers

50% of individual Pittsburgh Steelers 2020 tickets went on sale in May, “because the team wants to be prepared for possible social distancing scenarios.

But Steelers tickets going on sale was not an exciting time for everyone. Season Ticket Holders were very nervous about the traditional policy, which would have canceled their cherished account if they chose to skip 2020 tickets due to concerns about the novel coronavirus.

Luckily, the Steelers “established a process to review circumstances to ensure those who have concerns will have their tickets protected.” On July 8th, Steelers Season Ticket Holders received an email stating, “the Steelers goal ‘is to have fans at Heinz Field this season. We anticipate that we will be working with a reduced capacity scenario and that fans will be required to wear masks.’”

Green Bay Packers

On July 23rd, The Green Bay Packers Season Ticket Holders were asked to decide by July 31st to “opt in” or “opt out” of this season. Opting out would not impact their 2021 status. Season Ticket Holders who “opt in” will receive exclusive single game tickets presale information. To help influence the decision, safety protocols including mobile tickets, hand sanitizer stations throughout the concourse, cashless concession and merchandise stands were announced. Face coverings will be required at Lambeau Field except when eating and drinking.

Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks follow this lead, offering 2020 Season Ticket Holders a refund without losing their ability to purchase in 2021. The Seattle Times reported “fans who request a pause on their tickets for the 2020 season would ‘retain the ability to purchase (the) same seating location in 2021,’ the team said in its e-mail. Their seats would be released for only the 2020 season, the Seahawks said, with the current season-ticket holder then having the ability to take them back in 2021.”
