When does the NBA return?

June 1 is the date that NBA teams are expecting to hear from league commissioner Adam Silver to provide guidance on resumption of play. The rumors circulating thus far indicate the games will continue Mid-July and two possible hub locations of Las Vegas and Orlando’s Walt Disney World.

The central hub idea is to reduce the amount of travel and limit the possibility of players, staff, and officials from contracting COVID-19. On a conference call last week, Los Angeles Lakers’ Jared Dudley described what life would be like for players. He stated that there will be rigorous testing inside the hub and Adam Silver has likened the experience as a campus environment according to Woj.

While the NBA is trying to make the best of this truncated season, leagues like the NHL have forgone the rest of regular season and moving straight to the playoffs. An idea that sounds more reasonable than trying to fit the remaining games into the process.

For a number of years, there was a disparity in play between the West and Eastern conferences. So much so that fans, and some owners alike asked for a 1-16 seeding, irrespective of conference.

NBA Season Tickets Future

Will this finally come to fruition?

The NBA is looking at a variety of formats that could finish out the remaining games and include playoffs; Silver may be under mounting pressure to just continue with playoffs given the NHL decision today. Also 1-16 seeding may give him one less headache to worry about if playing in a central location.
