Many of the league commissioners and fans alike are looking forward to resuming play when safe. Public safety is at the forefront in all discussions and league officials are leaning on health experts for ongoing guidance.

A prevalent question is, how will fans with season tickets be able to enjoy live events with social distancing measures in place?

DLR Group, an architecture and engineering firm, believe that stadiums will have to renovated; potentially eliminating more than half of the current capacity. The tweaks won’t have to be so drastic, removing seats is all that would have to be done.

That solves spacing and seating issues, but what about the clusters of people making their way into the stadiums?

A proposed solution would be designated arrival times for attendees. Also, with the smaller amount of people being let in, that should curb a majority of crowding that happens at entrances. Other considerations will be paperless pay, and contactless solutions.

Let’s face it, with less fans in the seats, less revenue is being generated. This could change the way stadiums are built, how teams are management, and what investments are simply worth it to the owner. How will this change the environment for players and fans alike?

LeBron James has stated that playing behind closed doors isn’t something he’s interested in, but what about a smaller crowd attendance?

What happens to the season ticket holders?

If 10,000 season tickets are allotted for a 19,000 stadium, what considerations are created when making those cuts to ticket ownership? What will it do to the value of those tickets on the secondary market places?

Many teams including the 49ers, Saints, Bengals, Jaguars, Broncos, Browns and Seahawks are allowing season ticket holders to opt out of the 2020 season. By doing so, you will not relinquish your seats and they will be available in 2021. Almost all teams similar to the Ravens are reducing their attendance for the upcoming season to adhere to the social distancing guidelines.
